The Head-Tilt Test
A collection of finds that require a second look.
A strong week for pieces that require a slight suspension of judgment. The kind that make you tilt your head, squint a little, and wonder whether they’re brilliant or completely ridiculous. In my experience, those are usually the best finds.
This week’s roundup is filled with pieces that aren’t trying to be universally appealing. Unusual color combinations, unexpected silhouettes, quirky accessories, and items that feel just a little offbeat. The kinds of things that might not catch your eye immediately, but once they do, you can’t stop thinking about them.
A little weird. A little different. Just enough to make you pause and imagine the outfit.
Gucci shield mirrored sunglasses to achieve that sporty summer look.
Calling all brides: the perfect antique white bridal bag.
My first time coming across an orange Bottega Intrecciato wallet, and wow.
Deep navy suede Prada sandals with a square toe and delicate ankle strap.
If you’re board-short curious but not quite ready to commit, these are a great way to dip your toe in. They’re shorter, a little girlier, and come in the most galactic-looking iridescent purple.
A longer, more classic option.
A.W.A.K.E. Mode consistently makes some of the most interesting pieces. Lately, I’ve been especially obsessed.
925 sterling silver vintage Mexican earrings with lapis lazuli and an abstract silhouette.
Original Playboy flare jeans from the ‘90s.
A vintage hat is one of the easiest ways to make an outfit feel cooler. Love that this Tommy one is mesh, so it's super breathable.
Strappy Gucci cage kitten heels + sun-kissed feet = a very good combination.
Very Carrie Bradshaw-esque.
The sweetest little upcycled linen drawstring bag.
It’s giving all-American summer. A sweater for when the sun goes down.
The potential here is huge. With the right top, this could be such a beautiful wedding guest outfit.
I’d style these metallic-coated jeans with a basic white tank (think Hanes boys’) and baby heels. Equally cute with flip flops or ballet flats.
Calf hair zebra print. The animal print of the summer, if you ask me.
Straight into the vacation suitcase.
Purple capris. Are you kidding me?
Another vintage mesh hat. Polo Ralph Lauren.
We can thank Donni for making everyone want silk taffeta. The good news is that there are so many vintage (and affordable) options. The sequined beading at the hem is what sold me on these.
Or these Bob Mackies that are... wait for it... $5.
Beyond cool. A Japanese kimono bamboo basket bag.
Give me all the beaded heels, but especially these with the animal print footbed.
Vintage Polo jeans from 1999 with that perfectly worn-in look that’s impossible to fake.
Not as Fourth of July as the other sweater. More retro summer camp.
I have these in yellow (a hand-me-down from my grandma), and they’re adorable on the foot. Quite frankly, they’re one of the most comfortable kitten heels I own.
Vintage Tommy Hilfiger Tommy Jeans Sport Edition split-panel hat in a shiny nylon.
The colorblocking on these Gucci wedges is perfection.
Another Japanese kimono drawstring bag in a color combo that has me weak.
Love you, bye!
